If you follow regularly, you may know that we love the Nintendo Switch because it is incredibly versatile and engaging. In fact, we even used it for exercise when our children were home for virtual school. (Read our review of the Nintendo Ring Fit here.) In today's post, I'll switch gears and tell you about the popular Pokémon Shield game.
Pokémon Shield is a family friendly game has a rating of "E for Everyone." Let's start with an overview:
A new generation of Pokémon is coming to the Nintendo Switch system. Become a Pokémon Trainer, embark on a new journey in the new Galar region, and unravel the mystery behind the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta! Explore the Wild Area, a vast expanse of land where the player can freely control the camera. And participate in Max Raid Battles in which players will face off against gigantic and super-strong Pokémon known as Dynamax Pokémon.Begin your adventure by choosing one of three new partner Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble and encounter new and familiar Pokémon as you catch, battle, and trade. Players can control the camera and explore the vast areas around them in the Wild Area. Team up with other players locally or online in the new multiplayer co-op Max Raid Battles. Trainers who possess the special item Dynamax Band can Dynamax their own Pokémon. Get ready for the next Pokémon adventure in the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games.
The game is generously packed with engaging features, including these highlights:
My children have a large age gap, so it's important for us to find games that are age appropriate for everyone. This is one of the reasons that we love Nintendo -- their design team dedicates a lot of effort to creating a variety of games, including those that are family friendly. My older son never has to hide his screen from our preschooler. In fact, we play as a family and even our little preschooler is able to join the fun!
- Catch, battle, and trade Pokémon on an all-new adventure in the Galar region
- Choose from three new partner Pokémon and encounter never-before-seen Pokémon
- Unravel the mystery behind the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta!
- Team up with other Trainers to participate in Max Raid Battles!
- Battle wild Dynamax Pokémon in Max Raid Battles and try catching them
I don't want to spoil surprises, but I would like to give you a general idea of the incredible amount of entertainment that Pokémon Shield provides.
Pokémon Shield has over 300 Pokémon! As you can imagine, this will keep your children busy for an extensive amount of time.
There are 8 gyms with different themes with a variety of Pokémon.
There are non player characters to interact with to add to the challenges.
The game provides both online and offline modes. In the online mode, there are options to buy fun items such as the examples below. As parents, I think that we all appreciate that the game may be played either offline or online.
If we add all of this up, Pokémon Shield is a fantastic game that offers hours of gameplay! We hope that you have the chance to play it with your family too!
