Tips for Visiting the 2021 Prairie Lights in Grand Prairie, TX -- A Drive-Through Holiday Extravaganza!

1. Dress for the occasion.

Check the weather before you leave and dress accordingly! Texas weather changes quickly. We visited on November 19th and needed winter jackets since part of the activities are outside.

2. Buy tickets asap for a time slot that is early on a non-peak evening.

Traffic may buildup throughout the evening, especially at peak times like Thanksgiving day.  I think that it's definitely worth the wait if there happens to be traffic, but buying tickets for non-holiday weeknights for the earliest time slots in the evening is usually your best bet. (Keep in mind that when I share this advice, I'm an early bird who typically wakes up around 5:30am and also the kind of person who takes 7 or 8am doctor's appointments in order to minimize the chances of long waits!)

3. Follow the signs that suggest turning off your lights when you enter the park.

You'll see signs that recommend turning your lights off once you enter the park. Don't forget to turn them back on when you exit!

4. Set your radio to 98.7 KLUV (the Prairie Lights radio partner) or bring your holiday playlist.

Holiday music adds to the experience! We tune in to 98.7 KLUV, but you are also welcome to bring your own holiday playlist!

5. Note that there are restroom facilities at Christmas Village.

It's okay to drink hot cocoa while you drive through Prairie Lights!  You'll find restroom facilities at Christmas Village.

6. Check out the snack menu in advance.

You are welcome to bring food and drink with you, but they also have plenty of snacks available for purchase. (My kids love the chocolate dipped strawberries and funnel cakes!)

7. Keep in mind that the event is still on even if it rains!

They will only shut down if the weather is severe enough to post a safety hazard. A little rain won't shut down the event!

8. Don't get out of your car.

You are welcome to take photos in your car, but are not supposed to get out of your car during the drive-thru portion of the event.  You don't want to slow down the experience for others or cause a safety hazard. Don't worry - there are plenty of opportunities for photos at Christmas Village.  They even offer photos with Santa!

9. Plan extra time for Christmas Village.

You'll have the opportunity to walk through gorgeous lights. They also offer rides, photos with Santa, and food for purchase.

10. Check out the 2021 Prairie Lights FAQ.

The Prairie Lights team wants you to have a fabulous experience. Check out their FAQ page that answers many common questions.

We hope that you have the opportunity to visit the 2021 Prairie Lights event. The City of Grand Prairie deserves accolades for this fantastic and memorable event! We will always treasure the memories from our visit!
