10 Recipes for Walking Tacos from a Texas Mom!

As a Texan, tacos are a big part of my life! My family loves tacos.  In honor of Taco Tuesday, I thought that I'd share a fun teen-friendly post of walking tacos that my kids love! 

What is a walking taco? Walking tacos are a fun and convenient way to enjoy a taco in a portable bag of chips.

Here are ten different walking taco recipes you can try:

  1. Classic Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Ground beef or turkey
      • Taco seasoning
      • Lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese
      • Sour cream, salsa
      • Individual bags of Doritos or Fritos
    • Instructions: Cook and season the ground meat with taco seasoning. Open the bags of chips, add the meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
  2. Vegetarian Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Black beans or refried beans
      • Diced bell peppers, onions, corn
      • Avocado slices, shredded lettuce
      • Shredded cheese, salsa
      • Individual bags of tortilla chips
    • Instructions: Heat up the beans and mix with bell peppers, onions, and corn. Fill the chip bags with the bean mixture, top with avocado, lettuce, cheese, and salsa.
  3. BBQ Chicken Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Shredded BBQ chicken
      • Coleslaw mix
      • Chopped green onions
      • Shredded cheddar cheese
      • Individual bags of corn chips
    • Instructions: Mix shredded BBQ chicken with coleslaw mix. Fill the chip bags with the chicken mixture, top with green onions and cheese.
  4. Buffalo Chicken Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Shredded buffalo chicken
      • Blue cheese dressing or ranch
      • Diced celery
      • Crumbled blue cheese
      • Individual bags of corn chips
    • Instructions: Mix shredded buffalo chicken with blue cheese dressing. Fill the chip bags with the chicken mixture, top with diced celery and crumbled blue cheese.
  5. Taco Salad Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Ground beef or turkey
      • Taco seasoning
      • Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes
      • Black olives, diced onions
      • Shredded cheese, sour cream
      • Individual bags of nacho cheese chips
    • Instructions: Cook and season the meat with taco seasoning. Open the chip bags, add meat, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, onions, cheese, and sour cream.
  6. Chili Cheese Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Canned chili (with or without beans)
      • Shredded cheddar cheese
      • Diced onions, jalapeños (optional)
      • Individual bags of corn chips
    • Instructions: Heat up the chili. Open the chip bags, add chili, cheese, onions, and jalapeños if desired.
  7. Fish Taco Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Battered or grilled fish fillets (cut into chunks)
      • Shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix
      • Diced tomatoes, cilantro
      • Lime wedges
      • Individual bags of tortilla chips
    • Instructions: Place fish chunks on chips, top with shredded cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.
  8. Mediterranean Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Hummus
      • Diced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions
      • Kalamata olives, crumbled feta cheese
      • Chopped fresh parsley
      • Individual bags of pita chips
    • Instructions: Spread hummus in chip bags, add cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, olives, feta, and parsley.
  9. Breakfast Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Scrambled eggs
      • Cooked breakfast sausage or bacon bits
      • Shredded cheddar cheese
      • Salsa, chopped green onions (optional)
      • Individual bags of corn chips
    • Instructions: Fill chip bags with scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, cheese, and optional salsa and green onions.
  10. Sloppy Joe Walking Taco:

    • Ingredients:
      • Sloppy Joe mixture (ground beef cooked with sauce)
      • Diced onions, pickles (optional)
      • Shredded cheddar cheese
      • Individual bags of corn chips
    • Instructions: Fill chip bags with Sloppy Joe mixture, onions, pickles, and cheese.
