This small gesture means so much more than a practical item—it’s a symbol of dignity, support, and recognition for children who deserve to feel valued.
Giving Children Dignity
Founded by foster parent Cara Finger, My Bag My Story was born from a simple yet powerful idea: children in foster care deserve better than a trash bag. Cara recalls, "Everyone kept saying this was normal. I said it doesn’t have to be normal, so I set out to have bags made for kids. Having a bag to call your own instead of a trash bag gives a child dignity and makes them feel valued."
This nonprofit partners with over 30 Tennessee-based organizations to provide high-quality duffel bags and backpacks to foster children. For every bag purchased, another bag is given to a foster child. This not only lightens the physical load but also gives children a sense of worth and belonging that is often missing during such turbulent times.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, there are currently over 400,000 children in foster care across the country.
